How to sing it

Each chord is drawn out over two bars, and rushing them makes the song fall apart. In both verse and chorus the turn into Em is where the feeling is heaviest; from there, come down to the final G in one breath.

Why this song is free to play

A Scottish traditional melody to which Robert Burns (1759–1796) set words in the late 18th century; the tune has no identifiable composer. More than 200 years old, so out of copyright everywhere. It was checked by search that the Korean national anthem was sung to this tune before 1948, until Ahn Eak-tai’s melody replaced it (composed 1935), and that the song is sung in Korea under its own titles, Jakbyeol and Seokbyeol-ui Jeong.
